The US Dollar strengthened against the Swiss Franc on Monday, with USD/CHF extending its rebound above the 0.8050 level after recovering from a two-and-a-half-week low near 0.8000. The move reflects renewed demand for the Greenback as investors reacted to escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, while disappointing Swiss economic data further pressured the Franc.

Fresh concerns emerged after Iranian officials reiterated their intention to maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz and potentially impose transit fees on vessels passing through the strategic shipping route. The comments were met with firm opposition from the United States and added to uncertainty surrounding the fragile regional ceasefire. Renewed hostilities in Lebanon and fresh exchanges of threats between Iran and Israel further dampened investor sentiment, prompting a cautious shift toward the US Dollar.

In my view, while the Swiss Franc typically benefits during periods of heightened geopolitical uncertainty, the Greenback has regained its appeal as the preferred safe-haven currency amid rising concerns that tensions could disrupt global energy supplies and reignite inflation risks. This has allowed the US Dollar to outperform its traditional defensive peers.

The Swiss Franc also came under additional pressure after domestic labor market data showed the unemployment rate unexpectedly rose to 3.1% in June, the highest level in nearly five years, from 3.0% in May. The weaker-than-expected reading reinforced concerns that Switzerland's economy may be losing momentum, reducing support for the local currency.

Attention now shifts to the US economic calendar, where investors will closely monitor the ISM Services PMI for fresh insight into the health of the services sector. Although economists expect a slight moderation in activity, the index is forecast to remain comfortably in expansion territory, suggesting the US economy continues to show resilience.

Technical Analysis

USD/CHF has shifted into a stronger bullish recovery structure on the daily chart, with price trading near 0.8060 after breaking above the descending channel and reclaiming the key 0.8020–0.8050 resistance zone. This breakout is technically important because the pair had been capped by a long-term downward structure for several months, but buyers have now regained control.

The recent pullback toward 0.8020–0.8050 appears to be a retest of former resistance, which is now acting as support. As long as USD/CHF remains above this region, the bullish breakout remains valid and dips are likely to attract fresh buying interest.

On the upside, the next major resistance sits around 0.8300–0.8320, which aligns with the projected move on the chart. A sustained break above this zone would open the way toward 0.8450.

On the downside, a break below 0.8020 would weaken the bullish setup and expose 0.7920, followed by stronger support near 0.7770.

Momentum remains constructive, with price holding above the broken trendline rather than falling back into the channel. This suggests the current move is more likely a continuation setup than a false breakout.
