On Sunday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the U.S. military strikes against Iran, accusing Washington of violating international law and warning neighboring countries not to assist in any military operations targeting Iran. A further deterioration in U.S.-Iran diplomatic relations could boost safe-haven currencies such as the U.S. dollar and have a negative impact on major currency pairs. The European Central Bank raised interest rates at its June policy meeting, and the market expects two more rate hikes over the next year to curb the impact of the war in Iran on energy prices.
The minutes from the Federal Reserve’s June meeting clearly reflect policymakers’ ongoing concerns about inflation trends, with most officials prepared to respond with rate hikes if inflation continues to rise. New York Fed President Williams has also publicly stated that there are scenarios in which persistently high inflation would require monetary tightening. Since the first meeting under President Wash, which signaled a hawkish stance, investor bets on rate hikes this year have risen. Support for rate cuts within the Fed has noticeably diminished, and the likelihood of a rate hike now outweighs that of a cut. This structural shift provides sustained support for the dollar’s medium-term trend.
Technical Analysis
On the daily chart of the EUR/USD pair, the Bollinger Bands are widening downward, and the moving averages are diverging downward, indicating that the overall downtrend remains intact. The MACD fast and slow lines continue to trade below the 0 line, and the RSI stands at 38, suggesting that the market is in a bearish mood. On the 4-hour chart, the Bollinger Bands are widening downward, the moving averages are diverging downward, and the price is consolidating near the lower Bollinger Band. The RSI stands at 37, indicating that market participants are predominantly selling. The recommended strategy is to sell on rallies.
