Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Technology and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.25%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.21%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.45%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM), which rose 3.04% or 7.56 points to trade at 256.09 at the close. Meanwhile, Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 1.76% or 1.77 points to end at 102.28 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) was up 1.60% or 5.05 points to 320.44 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which fell 2.39% or 1.06 points to trade at 43.32 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) declined 1.26% or 3.56 points to end at 280.08 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) was down 0.85% or 1.33 points to 153.98.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Take-Two Interactive Software Inc (NASDAQ:TTWO) which rose 3.80% to 248.80, Uber Technologies Inc (NYSE:UBER) which was up 3.70% to settle at 94.36 and Live Nation Entertainment Inc (NYSE:LYV) which gained 3.66% to close at 169.40.
The worst performers were CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS) which was down 4.77% to 70.26 in late trade, Celanese Corporation (NYSE:CE) which lost 4.56% to settle at 46.51 and Brown Forman (NYSE:BFb) which was down 4.50% to 27.61 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Eightco Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:OCTO) which rose 3,065.52% to 45.90, Sentage Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SNTG) which was up 237.13% to settle at 6.81 and Rapport Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RAPP) which gained 119.36% to close at 31.50.
The worst performers were New Fortress Energy LLC (NASDAQ:NFE) which was down 42.86% to 1.40 in late trade, Professional Diversity Network Inc (NASDAQ:IPDN) which lost 33.54% to settle at 4.28 and CDT Equity Inc (NASDAQ:CDT) which was down 32.45% to 0.80 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1468 to 1283 and 79 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1764 rose and 1554 declined, while 165 ended unchanged.
Shares in Take-Two Interactive Software Inc (NASDAQ:TTWO) rose to all time highs; rising 3.80% or 9.12 to 248.80. Shares in Live Nation Entertainment Inc (NYSE:LYV) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.66% or 5.98 to 169.40. Shares in Eightco Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:OCTO) rose to 52-week highs; up 3,065.52% or 44.45 to 45.90. Shares in New Fortress Energy LLC (NASDAQ:NFE) fell to all time lows; falling 42.86% or 1.05 to 1.40. Shares in Sentage Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SNTG) rose to 3-years highs; rising 237.13% or 4.79 to 6.81. Shares in Rapport Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RAPP) rose to all time highs; rising 119.36% or 17.14 to 31.50. Shares in CDT Equity Inc (NASDAQ:CDT) fell to all time lows; falling 32.45% or 0.38 to 0.80.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.33% to 15.13.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.62% or 22.60 to $3,675.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.94% or 0.58 to hit $62.45 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.08% or 0.71 to trade at $66.21 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.37% to 1.18, while USD/JPY rose 0.05% to 147.49.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 97.41.
