Data Interpretation: The RBA Weighted Median CPI reflects changes in prices of goods and services. Consumption inflation is considered as one of the main factors behind the changes of Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA)'s interest rate policies. The calculation of weighted median is one of the ways to assess core inflation, mainly because the price of some items fluctuates so much that it may have a big impact on the CPI. In addition, items of expenditure that are heavily weighted in the CPI basket may also increase the volatility of the average.
