U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.47%

Investing.com – Mexico stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrials, Consumer Goods & Services and Consumer Staples sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Mexico, the S&P/BMV IPC lost 1.14%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/BMV IPC were Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico SAB De CV Class B (BMV:GAPB), which rose 2.89% or 13.12 points to trade at 466.64 at the close. Meanwhile, Controladora Vuela Compania de Aviacion SAB de CV (BMV:VOLARA) added 2.52% or 0.35 points to end at 14.25 and Alsea , S.A.B. De C.V. (BMV:ALSEA) was up 1.59% or 0.80 points to 51.20 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Gentera SAB de CV (BMV:GENTERA), which fell 4.13% or 1.78 points to trade at 41.32 at the close. Kimberly - Clark De Mexico A (BMV:KIMBERA) declined 3.46% or 1.31 points to end at 36.50 and GCC SAB de CV (BMV:GCC) was down 3.02% or 5.72 points to 183.38.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Mexico Stock Exchange by 129 to 95 and 16 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.03% or 44.65 to $4,376.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.88% or 1.59 to hit $56.72 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.82% or 1.66 to trade at $60.58 a barrel.

USD/MXN was up 0.21% to 18.00, while EUR/MXN rose 0.26% to 21.14.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 98.03.

Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Financials and IT sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.04%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT), which rose 6.26% or 4.73 points to trade at 80.28 at the close. Meanwhile, Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) added 4.58% or 0.19 points to end at 4.34 and Discovery Silver Corp (TSX:DSV) was up 4.56% or 0.40 points to 9.18 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Toromont Industries Ltd . (TSX:TIH), which fell 5.64% or 9.47 points to trade at 158.47 at the close. TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA) declined 5.40% or 1.01 points to end at 17.68 and Badger Infrastructure Solutions Ltd (TSX:BDGI) was down 4.94% or 3.77 points to 72.56.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 455 to 420 and 95 ended unchanged.

Shares in Discovery Silver Corp (TSX:DSV) rose to 5-year highs; rising 4.56% or 0.40 to 9.18.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 27.01% to 14.06.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.04% or 45.00 to $4,377.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.87% or 1.58 to hit $56.71 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.83% or 1.67 to trade at $60.59 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.14% to 0.62.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 98.03.

USD/COP was up 0.79% to 3,869.50, while BRL/COP fell 0.02% to 702.65.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 98.04.

At the close in Moscow, the MOEX Russia Index fell 0.58%.

USD/RUB was up 0.03% to 79.07, while EUR/RUB rose 1.84% to 94.56.
