Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.16%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.21%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.89%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Sherwin-Williams Co (NYSE:SHW), which rose 2.09% or 7.24 points to trade at 354.17 at the close. Meanwhile, Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) added 1.93% or 2.80 points to end at 147.77 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 1.64% or 2.73 points to 168.93 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH), which fell 6.04% or 32.83 points to trade at 510.59 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) declined 4.04% or 9.61 points to end at 228.26 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) was down 1.92% or 2.62 points to 133.57.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were DexCom Inc (NASDAQ:DXCM) which rose 5.52% to 84.84, American Tower Corp (NYSE:AMT) which was up 5.41% to settle at 190.07 and Constellation Energy Corp (NASDAQ:CEG) which gained 4.81% to close at 315.24.
The worst performers were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) which was down 6.04% to 510.59 in late trade, U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) which lost 5.64% to settle at 48.03 and Texas Instruments Incorporated (NASDAQ:TXN) which was down 5.13% to 187.37 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Biomerica Inc (NASDAQ:BMRA) which rose 108.75% to 0.71, Katapult Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:KPLT) which was up 46.82% to settle at 10.16 and WANG & LEE GROUP Inc (NASDAQ:WLGS) which gained 40.28% to close at 3.97.
The worst performers were Leafly Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:LFLY) which was down 60.90% to 0.57 in late trade, Luxurban Hotels Inc (NASDAQ:LUXH) which lost 53.50% to settle at 0.32 and Powell Max Ltd (NASDAQ:PMAX) which was down 43.16% to 0.83 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1700 to 1072 and 86 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1689 fell and 1588 advanced, while 149 ended unchanged.
Shares in Constellation Energy Corp (NASDAQ:CEG) rose to all time highs; rising 4.81% or 14.47 to 315.24. Shares in Leafly Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:LFLY) fell to all time lows; losing 60.90% or 0.88 to 0.57. Shares in Luxurban Hotels Inc (NASDAQ:LUXH) fell to all time lows; falling 53.50% or 0.37 to 0.32. Shares in Powell Max Ltd (NASDAQ:PMAX) fell to all time lows; falling 43.16% or 0.63 to 0.83.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.98% to 16.60.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.02% or 27.79 to $2,745.59 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.12% or 0.88 to hit $77.83 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.89% or 0.73 to trade at $81.30 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 1.03, while USD/JPY fell 0.76% to 155.19.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 108.78.
