Investing.com -- US stock futures mostly rose Thursday, ahead of the release of more corporate earnings and US retail sales data.

Here are some of the biggest premarket US stock movers today:

          • Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) stock rose 2% after the second-largest US lender reported higher profit as its investment bankers capitalized on resurgence in dealmaking in the fourth quarter.

          • Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) stock rose 1% after the bank’s profit increased in the fourth quarter, fueled by a wave of dealmaking for the investment bank.

          • Target (NYSE:TGT) stock rose 2.1% after the retail giant lifted its forecast for comparable sales for the fourth quarter, buoyed by robust shopper demand for clothing, toys and beauty products during November and December.

          • Unitedhealth (NYSE:UNH) stock fell 4.1% after the healthcare conglomerate reported fourth-quarter revenue below estimates, hurt by weakness in its health insurance unit.

          • Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) stock fell 0.8% after CNBC reported that the EV manufacturer has begun offering discounts on new Cybertruck models in its inventory, referencing pricing information from the company’s website.

          • BP (NYSE:BP) ADRs rose 0.5% after the energy giant announced it will cut over 5% of its global workforce as part of CEO Murray Auchincloss' efforts to reduce costs and rebuild investor confidence in the energy giant.

          • Southwest Airlines (NYSE:LUV) stock fell 2.5% after the US Transportation Department sued the carrier, accusing it of illegally operating multiple chronically delayed flights.

          • Polestar (NASDAQ:PSNY) stock fell 9% after the Swedish EV maker sold fewer-than-expected cars, with the CEO adding that it will take longer for the company to be profitable.

          • Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE:TSM) stock rose 4.3% after the Taiwanese chipmaker said fourth-quarter net profit rose 57% to a record, as it benefits from surging demand for semiconductors used in artificial intelligence processing.

Polestar Automotive Holding UK reported Thursday a preliminary fiscal Q3 revenue of $550.7 million, down from $608.6 million a year earlier.

The company also said it now expects a mid-teens percentage decline in fiscal 2024 revenue due to "continued adverse market conditions." Polestar previously estimated fiscal 2024 revenue to be in line with that of fiscal 2023.

In a separate statement, Polestar said it has updated its business plan to target a positive adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization in 2025. The company said its new strategies also target a compound annual retail sales volume growth of 30% to 35% for 2025 to 2027.

Shares of Polestar were down more than 11% in recent premarket activity.

          By Adriano Marchese

Shares of Polestar Automotive Holding UK fell in early trading Thursday after it lowered its targets for 2024 following disappointing car sales and more intense discounting of its vehicles.

Shares traded nearly 11% lower at $1.10.

For full year 2024 the electric vehicle maker said it now expects a mid-teens percentage decline in revenue and a negative gross margin around the same level as full year 2023, as the fourth quarter product mix was negatively impacted by fewer-than-expected Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 sales.

In 2023, the company reported revenue of $2.38 billion while analysts expected for 2024 decline to $2.22 billion, according to FactSet.

Polestar also noted that other one-time events also contributed to a difficult fourth quarter, including a market value adjustment of inventory as well as continued market pressure from discounting initiatives.

For the third quarter, Polestar posted a widened net loss of $323 million for the three months ended Sept. 30, compared with a loss of $175.4 million in the same quarter a year ago.

Revenue fell by 10% to $551 million, citing lower volume and competitive market condition. In the period, Polestar logged retail sales of 12,548 cars, an 8% decline compared with the prior-year period.

Polestar said that, looking ahead to 2025, indications from a solid order intake for new models late in the fourth quarter has signaled an encouraging start to the new year.
