Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Services and Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.92%, while the S&P 500 index gained 1.08%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.41%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 6.84% or 11.05 points to trade at 172.62 at the close. Meanwhile, American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) added 3.02% or 7.93 points to end at 270.65 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) was up 2.16% or 5.34 points to 252.29 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which fell 0.85% or 2.72 points to trade at 315.93 at the close. Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) declined 0.77% or 1.26 points to end at 162.99 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was down 0.75% or 0.71 points to 94.01.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) which rose 6.84% to 172.62, Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which was up 5.86% to settle at 40.12 and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (NYSE:RCL) which gained 5.76% to close at 215.09.
The worst performers were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which was down 6.94% to 24.12 in late trade, Progressive Corp (NYSE:PGR) which lost 3.53% to settle at 273.29 and Bio-Techne Corp (NASDAQ:TECH) which was down 3.09% to 60.89 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were TEN Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:XHLD) which rose 168.28% to 1.57, Leishen Energy Holding Co Ltd (NASDAQ:LSE) which was up 66.00% to settle at 12.50 and Bowen Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:BOWN) which gained 45.66% to close at 6.38.
The worst performers were Wellchange Holdings Co Ltd (NASDAQ:WCT) which was down 34.18% to 0.26 in late trade, Organovo Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ONVO) which lost 32.61% to settle at 0.27 and FST Ltd (NASDAQ:KBSX) which was down 29.51% to 3.87 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1952 to 819 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2245 rose and 1039 declined, while 135 ended unchanged.
Shares in Wellchange Holdings Co Ltd (NASDAQ:WCT) fell to all time lows; falling 34.18% or 0.14 to 0.26. Shares in Leishen Energy Holding Co Ltd (NASDAQ:LSE) rose to all time highs; rising 66.00% or 4.97 to 12.50. Shares in Organovo Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ONVO) fell to all time lows; losing 32.61% or 0.13 to 0.27.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 8.29% to 19.90.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.43% or 13.19 to $3,053.99 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.42% or 0.28 to hit $67.03 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.47% or 0.33 to trade at $70.89 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.39% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.42% to 148.72.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 103.12.
