Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Technology, Oil & Gas and Industrials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.37%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.33%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.53%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which rose 1.77% or 0.78 points to trade at 44.96 at the close. Meanwhile, Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) added 1.65% or 5.68 points to end at 349.86 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) was up 1.28% or 2.13 points to 168.71 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), which fell 2.78% or 4.24 points to trade at 148.44 at the close. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) declined 2.61% or 15.00 points to end at 558.92 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) was down 2.06% or 2.34 points to 111.42.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:DLTR) which rose 11.18% to 76.95, AutoZone Inc (NYSE:AZO) which was up 3.86% to settle at 3,823.93 and Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT) which gained 3.74% to close at 131.35.

The worst performers were General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) which was down 7.36% to 47.20 in late trade, Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which lost 6.26% to settle at 34.72 and Palo Alto Networks Inc (NASDAQ:PANW) which was down 5.69% to 174.44 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Marblegate Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:GATE) which rose 207.69% to 50.00, Lytus Technologies Holdings Ptv Ltd (NASDAQ:LYT) which was up 88.28% to settle at 0.12 and Direct Digital Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:DRCT) which gained 69.32% to close at 1.33.

The worst performers were Trident Digital Tech Holdings Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:TDTH) which was down 61.66% to 0.59 in late trade, LogicMark Inc (NASDAQ:LGMK) which lost 44.75% to settle at 0.05 and Benson Hill Inc (OTC:BHILQ) which was down 39.52% to 0.15 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1539 to 1221 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1719 fell and 1574 advanced, while 128 ended unchanged.

Shares in AutoZone Inc (NYSE:AZO) rose to all time highs; up 3.86% or 142.25 to 3,823.93. Shares in Marblegate Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:GATE) rose to all time highs; rising 207.69% or 33.75 to 50.00. Shares in LogicMark Inc (NASDAQ:LGMK) fell to all time lows; falling 44.75% or 0.04 to 0.05. Shares in Benson Hill Inc (OTC:BHILQ) fell to all time lows; losing 39.52% or 0.10 to 0.15.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.96% to 18.69.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.52% or 46.29 to $3,098.59 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.30% or 0.21 to hit $69.86 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.31% or 0.23 to trade at $73.29 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.42% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.32% to 151.06.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 103.94.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.85%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.64%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.31%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which rose 2.85% or 2.04 points to trade at 73.70 at the close. Meanwhile, Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 2.51% or 2.14 points to end at 87.49 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) was up 2.12% or 10.37 points to 499.02 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), which fell 1.76% or 2.14 points to trade at 119.53 at the close. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) declined 1.12% or 2.21 points to end at 195.74 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was down 0.47% or 1.25 points to 264.38.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which rose 9.75% to 63.80, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which was up 6.88% to settle at 25.71 and The AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) which gained 5.97% to close at 13.05.

The worst performers were Incyte Corporation (NASDAQ:INCY) which was down 8.65% to 61.99 in late trade, Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS) which lost 6.86% to settle at 152.99 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which was down 4.79% to 238.01 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were SAIHEAT Ltd (NASDAQ:SAIH) which rose 1,420.87% to 5.91, Farmmi Inc (NASDAQ:FAMI) which was up 1,142.83% to settle at 1.95 and Airnet Technology Inc (NASDAQ:ANTE) which gained 97.93% to close at 1.61.

The worst performers were Bon Natural Life Ltd (NASDAQ:BON) which was down 58.85% to 0.59 in late trade, Lytus Technologies Holdings Ptv Ltd (NASDAQ:LYT) which lost 24.66% to settle at 0.08 and Starbox Group Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:STBX) which was down 23.85% to 0.20 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2178 to 598 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2247 rose and 1056 declined, while 124 ended unchanged.

Shares in Bon Natural Life Ltd (NASDAQ:BON) fell to all time lows; falling 58.85% or 0.85 to 0.59. Shares in Lytus Technologies Holdings Ptv Ltd (NASDAQ:LYT) fell to all time lows; losing 24.66% or 0.03 to 0.08. Shares in Starbox Group Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:STBX) fell to all time lows; down 23.85% or 0.06 to 0.20.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.79% to 20.51.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.29% or 8.81 to $3,009.91 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.63% or 0.42 to hit $67.33 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.67% or 0.47 to trade at $71.05 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.39% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.37% to 149.17.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 103.01.
