Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.43%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.91%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.67%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK), which rose 5.24% or 5.26 points to trade at 105.66 at the close. Meanwhile, Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 4.31% or 14.49 points to end at 351.07 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) was up 3.19% or 7.24 points to 234.06 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), which fell 2.59% or 4.73 points to trade at 177.82 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 0.81% or 1.22 points to end at 148.53 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) was up 0.01% or 0.01 points to 72.60.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Amentum Holdings LLC (NYSE:AMTM) which rose 18.23% to 30.00, Keysight Technologies Inc (NYSE:KEYS) which was up 10.01% to settle at 195.46 and Builders FirstSource Inc (NYSE:BLDR) which gained 8.40% to close at 108.97.
The worst performers were Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which was down 4.16% to 206.10 in late trade, JM Smucker Company (NYSE:SJM) which lost 3.72% to settle at 100.39 and Omnicom Group Inc (NYSE:OMC) which was down 2.65% to 72.85 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Mesa Air Group Inc (NASDAQ:RJET) which rose 1,396.36% to 20.95, Clean Energy Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:CETY) which was up 116.82% to settle at 2.32 and Rubico Inc (NASDAQ:RUBI) which gained 54.22% to close at 0.24.
The worst performers were Mingzhu Logistics Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:YGMZ) which was down 82.60% to 0.18 in late trade, Inno Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:INHD) which lost 45.29% to settle at 0.26 and K Wave Media Ltd (NASDAQ:KWM) which was down 43.41% to 0.51 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2223 to 536 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2410 rose and 956 declined, while 165 ended unchanged.
Shares in Amentum Holdings LLC (NYSE:AMTM) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 18.23% or 4.63 to 30.00. Shares in Keysight Technologies Inc (NYSE:KEYS) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 10.01% or 17.79 to 195.46. Shares in Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) rose to 52-week highs; rising 5.24% or 5.26 to 105.66. Shares in Mesa Air Group Inc (NASDAQ:RJET) rose to all time highs; rising 1,396.36% or 19.55 to 20.95. Shares in Mingzhu Logistics Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:YGMZ) fell to all time lows; falling 82.60% or 0.88 to 0.18. Shares in Inno Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:INHD) fell to all time lows; down 45.29% or 0.22 to 0.26. Shares in K Wave Media Ltd (NASDAQ:KWM) fell to all time lows; down 43.41% or 0.39 to 0.51.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 9.60% to 18.55.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.10% or 4.00 to $4,166.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.44% or 0.85 to hit $58.07 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.28% or 0.80 to trade at $61.92 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.43% to 1.16, while USD/JPY fell 0.49% to 156.07.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 99.75.
