Raymond James Financial said its board approved an increase of 8% to the quarterly dividend, and authorized the repurchase of up to $2 billion of stock.

The new dividend, 54 cents per share, up from 50 cents, will be payable Jan. 16, to shareholders of record Jan. 2.

The dividend, $2.16 per share annually, represents a yield of 1.3%, based on Raymond James' closing share price of $158.79 Wednesday.

In December of last year, Raymond James increased its dividend to 50 cents per share from 45 cents.

Raymond James also said its new repurchase authorization replaces the prior authorization, which had about $105 million remaining. The new authorization has no fixed expiration date.

Raymond James Financial has a market capitalization of $30.61 billion, 196.67 million shares outstanding, and a public float of 176.54 million shares.
