          What Happened?

A number of stocks fell in the afternoon session after the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell as much as 0.7%, reflecting lingering uncertainty, and capping off a volatile week which saw stocks enjoy some relief as President Donald Trump reduced tensions with European allies by backing off his threat of imposing new tariffs.

Threats of tariffs initially created uncertainty for businesses, as they can lead to higher costs for multinational corporations and disrupt global supply chains. By withdrawing the threat, the administration removed a significant headwind for the market, prompting a relief rally. This development was a key factor in helping major indexes recover from earlier losses, even as some analysts noted that underlying geopolitical risks and market volatility remain concerns for investors.

The stock market overreacts to news, and big price drops can present good opportunities to buy high-quality stocks.

Among others, the following stocks were impacted:

          • Property & Casualty Insurance company Lemonade fell 3.3%. Is now the time to buy Lemonade? Access our full analysis report here, it’s free.

          Zooming In On Lemonade (LMND)

Lemonade’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 61 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 1 day ago when the stock gained 13.1% on the news that it launched a first-of-its-kind insurance product for Tesla vehicles using Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology, offering a roughly 50% reduction in per-mile rates.

The stock's rise was a continuation of gains from the previous trading session, when the company first announced its "Lemonade Autonomous Car" insurance. The new offering was the result of a partnership with Tesla, which gave Lemonade access to previously unavailable vehicle data. According to the company, this data indicated that Teslas driven with FSD were involved in far fewer accidents. By pricing insurance based on actual usage and the increased safety of autonomous driving, Lemonade aimed to offer a more fair and affordable product. The company planned to first make the new insurance available in Arizona, followed by Oregon.

Lemonade is up 22.4% since the beginning of the year, and at $92.95 per share, it is trading close to its 52-week high of $96.57 from January 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Lemonade’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $615.66.

Why Lemonade (LMND) Stock Is Trading Up Today

          Stock Story
          Lemonade
          -4.98%

          What Happened?

Shares of digital insurance provider Lemonade jumped 13.1% in the afternoon session after it launched a first-of-its-kind insurance product for Tesla vehicles using Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology, offering a roughly 50% reduction in per-mile rates.

The stock's rise was a continuation of gains from the previous trading session, when the company first announced its "Lemonade Autonomous Car" insurance. The new offering was the result of a partnership with Tesla, which gave Lemonade access to previously unavailable vehicle data. The company planned to first make the new insurance available in Arizona, followed by Oregon.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Lemonade’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 60 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for Lemonade and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 10 days ago when the stock gained 8.3% on the news that Truist Securities initiated coverage on the company with a "Buy" rating and a $98 price target.

The new coverage from Truist highlighted Lemonade's digital-first approach as a structural advantage over traditional insurers. This positive view followed the company's strong third-quarter 2025 financial results, where it posted better-than-expected earnings and revenue. In response to the solid performance, Citizens also raised its price target on the stock to $80 from $60. The stock's climb, which marked a new 52-week high, reflected this renewed investor confidence, driven by favorable analyst ratings and solid financial performance.

Lemonade is up 27% since the beginning of the year, and at $96.50 per share, has set a new 52-week high. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Lemonade’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $628.69.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk Backs Lemonade Halving Insurance Rates For FSD-Driven Miles: ‘It Increases Safety So Much’

Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk said on Wednesday that digital insurance company Lemonade (LMND) has halved the price of its pay-per-mile insurance for Tesla vehicles when full self-driving (FSD) technology is activated because it enhances security “so much.”

Musk was referring to Lemonade’s new Autonomous Car insurance in his post on social media platform X.https://x.com/elonmusk/status/2014039116854300810?s=20

          Lemonade’s Rate Cut For FSD

Lemonade on Wednesday launched the Lemonade Autonomous Car insurance, designed specifically for self-driving cars, starting with Tesla FSD.

The new offering cuts per-mile rates for FSD-engaged driving by approximately 50% and Lemonade said that the decision reflects the data which showed it significantly reduced risk during autonomous operation. The offering, Lemonade said, is the result of a collaboration with Tesla under which the company got access to vehicle telemetry data. The data fed by Tesla will be used to distinguish between FSD-led driving and human driving, it added.

The product will begin rolling out in Arizona on January 26 and in Oregon a month later, Lemonade said.

Shares of TSLA traded 3% higher at the time of writing while LMND stock rose 8%.

          Insurer Rationale

“Traditional insurers treat a Tesla like any other car, and AI like any other driver,” said Shai Wininger, co-founder and president at Lemonade. “But a car that sees 360 degrees, never gets drowsy, and reacts in milliseconds can’t be compared to a human.”

Lemonade expects further risk reduction as Tesla releases FSD software updates. Wininger said on Wednesday that the company’s prices will drop as FSD becomes safer

Tesla’s FSD allows for automaking certain driving tasks but does not make the vehicle fully autonomous. It requires the driver to be alert to take over as required and has been at the receiving end of regulatory scrutiny over traffic regulation violations and accidents including at the time of adverse weather conditions.

          How Did Stocktwits Users React?

On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around LMND stayed within the ‘bearish’ territory over the past 24 hours while message volume remained at ‘low’ levels.

Sentiment around TSLA meanwhile rose from ‘bearish’ to ‘neutral’ territory, coupled with ‘low’ message volume.

While shares of TSLA have gained 2% over the past 12 months, LMND shares have added 161%.
