Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.80% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX:AYA), which rose 12.02% or 2.57 points to trade at 23.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Curaleaf Holdings Inc (TSX:CURA) added 8.00% or 0.28 points to end at 3.78 and Bitfarms Ltd (TSX:BITF) was up 7.95% or 0.31 points to 4.21 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Emera Incorporated (TSX:EMA), which fell 2.40% or 1.63 points to trade at 66.36 at the close. Exchange Income Corporation (TSX:EIF) declined 2.22% or 1.97 points to end at 86.74 and Gildan Activewear Inc. (TSX:GIL) was down 2.14% or 1.89 points to 86.45.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 639 to 354 and 67 ended unchanged.
Shares in Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX:AYA) rose to all time highs; up 12.02% or 2.57 to 23.95.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.54% to 12.66.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 2.28% or 102.74 to $4,603.64 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.15% or 0.68 to hit $59.62 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.03% or 0.65 to trade at $63.99 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.26% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 98.67.
