Millicom eyes Telefonica’s Chile unit to expand Latin American presence - Bloomberg

Investing.com -- Millicom International Cellular SA has expressed interest in acquiring Telefonica SA’s Chilean unit, potentially adding Chile to its Latin American markets, according to reporting from Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The Luxembourg-based telecommunications company, which operates in Latin America under the Tigo brand, has not made any final decisions, and there is no guarantee that Millicom will submit an offer for Telefonica Chile, the sources said.

If completed, the acquisition would introduce Millicom as a new competitor in the Chilean telecommunications market while maintaining the total number of operators at four.

Millicom has been expanding its Latin American footprint by purchasing Telefonica’s assets across the region as the Madrid-based company reduces its presence outside Brazil. In the past year, Millicom has agreed to acquire Telefonica’s operations in Colombia, Ecuador and Uruguay.

Telefonica has been soliciting bids for its Chilean business since last year. Competitors Entel SA and America Movil SAB had previously shown interest in making a joint bid but abandoned those plans. In December, Entel announced it was exploring options to remain in the bidding process, while America Movil stated it would pursue the acquisition independently.

According to one source, Entel has not submitted any new bids for the Telefonica unit.

Investing.com -- Aktis Oncology Inc. has increased the size of its initial public offering by 50% and secured interest from Eli Lilly & Co. for $100 million of shares in the listing.

The clinical-stage biotechnology company boosted its IPO to 17.65 million shares from the originally planned 11.78 million shares, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday.

Shares are being marketed in the range of $16 to $18 each. Eli Lilly, which is already a stockholder in Aktis, has indicated interest in purchasing approximately $100 million in shares at the IPO price.

Aktis has applied to list its common stock on the Nasdaq Global Market under the symbol "AKTS." The company is backed by investors including MPM BioImpact and Vida Ventures.

The company focuses on developing targeted radiopharmaceuticals for cancer treatment. Its lead product candidate, [225Ac]Ac-AKY-1189, targets Nectin-4, a surface protein found on various tumors with limited expression in normal adult tissues.

Aktis began a multi-site Phase 1b clinical trial in the United States after receiving FDA clearance for its Investigational New Drug application in April 2025. The company expects preliminary results from the first part of this trial in the first quarter of 2027.

The company describes itself as an "emerging growth company" and a "smaller reporting company" under U.S. federal securities laws, which subjects it to reduced public company reporting requirements.

J.P. Morgan, BofA Securities, Leerink Partners, and TD Cowen are serving as underwriters for the offering. The underwriters have a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional 2,647,500 shares.

The Round-Number Rally: Dow 50K Isn't the Only Big Target in Global Markets — Barrons.com

          Dow Jones Newswires
          Microsoft
          +0.31%
          NVIDIA
          -1.44%

          By Martin Baccardax

Global stocks are powering higher across the board, with markets in Europe and Asia hitting a series of fresh all-time highs and U.S. benchmarks on pace to reach historic thresholds early in the new year.

And for the first time since the current bull market began in the autumn of 2022, tech isn't leading the charge, either at home or abroad.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average has risen more than 3.6% over the past month, including 3% since the start of the year. It is within striking distance of the 50,000 point mark.

The index includes enormous tech companies such as Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon.com and Apple, but its value is based on the prices of those stocks, rather than their market capitalizations, giving them far less influence on its daily movements.

The S&P 500 is up around 1.4% over the past month and since the start of 2026, leaving the benchmark just 50 points from the 7000-point threshold. The Nasdaq Composite, meanwhile, is up by around 1.3% since the start of the year, leaving it more or less where it was a month ago.

Much of the Nasdaq's advance has been tied to memory and semiconductor companies, such as Western Digital, Lam Research and Micron Technology. The megacap tech stocks, meanwhile, are flatlining: An index of the so-called Magnificent Seven is down 0.3% for the year.

Nvidia, the market's $4.6 trillion behemoth, is up a solid 2% for the year, but remains around 8.3% south of the record high it reached in late October.

"The moves underline the market's risk appetite and demonstrate the broadening in exposure to encompass overlooked value plays and small-caps, as well as tech," said David Morrison, senior market analyst at Trade Nation. "Nvidia appears to have found its footing, but it looks as if investors currently prefer to deploy funds to stocks with cheaper valuations for now."

An closely tracked index that gives all the stocks in the S&P 500 an equal weighting would seem to back that view. The S&P 500 Equal Weight index hit a record high on Tuesday and has gained around 2.7% over the past month.

"The S&P 500 Equal Weight Index is often viewed as a proxy for the return of the average stock and for assessing the breadth of the broader market," said Keith Lerner, chief market strategist at Truist. He says that further outperformance by the equal-weight index could signal stronger earnings growth outside of tech.

LSEG data suggest collective S&P 500 profits will rise around 15.6% to $314 a share in 2026, with sectors such as materials, industrials, and financials contributing a larger share of the growth. In fact, the S&P's communications services index, home to Apple and Meta Platforms, is likely to see a 3% decline in first-quarter earnings, compared with a near 8% gain for industrials, the data indicate.

The Dow's gains, as well as advances in benchmarks from the U.K., Germany, and Japan, suggest a continuing move out of megacap tech stocks, as well as those linked to the artificial-intelligence investment boom, in favor of materials, industrials, and financial stocks.

Britain's FTSE 100, which is led by miners and banks, topped the 10,000 point mark for the first time on record late last week. It has risen 4.3% over the past month.

Germany's DAX index, which has only two true major tech influences, edged past the 25,000 threshold on Wednesday. It is up 2.4% for the year. Japan's Nikkei 225 pierced the 50,000-point barrier late last month.

It is also worth noting that gold is on its way to the $5000 an ounce mark in this global "round number rally," while silver breached $80 an ounce and copper topped $13,000 a ton earlier in the week.

Some investors get nervous when everything around them is testing new highs, especially when assets such as gold and copper, which ostensibly tell different stories, are pacing the advance.

But geopolitics isn't blunting sentiment as yet, the Federal Reserve remains more likely than not to reduce interest rates and keep the banking sector awash with liquidity, and the Trump administration is willing to do whatever it takes to keep the economy running hot into the midterm elections.

And that points to higher round numbers ahead.
