Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumer Goods, Technology and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.27%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.76%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 1.20%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM), which rose 1.97% or 5.03 points to trade at 260.73 at the close. Meanwhile, Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) added 1.67% or 2.77 points to end at 168.76 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) was up 1.50% or 0.59 points to 39.98 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which fell 3.39% or 7.99 points to trade at 228.01 at the close. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) declined 2.84% or 3.41 points to end at 116.66 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) was down 2.66% or 9.89 points to 361.55.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were IDEXX Laboratories Inc (NASDAQ:IDXX) which rose 11.13% to 469.04, Molina Healthcare Inc (NYSE:MOH) which was up 4.82% to settle at 325.36 and AbbVie Inc (NYSE:ABBV) which gained 3.39% to close at 190.14.
The worst performers were Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which was down 7.28% to 36.55 in late trade, Franklin Resources Inc (NYSE:BEN) which lost 6.83% to settle at 20.72 and FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) which was down 6.62% to 247.34 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Invivyd Inc (NASDAQ:IVVD) which rose 196.34% to 1.06, HCW Biologics Inc (NASDAQ:HCWB) which was up 128.58% to settle at 0.64 and MDJM Ltd (NASDAQ:UOKA) which gained 83.08% to close at 0.24.
The worst performers were Cyngn Inc (NASDAQ:CYN) which was down 56.70% to 0.12 in late trade, Tonix Pharmaceuticals Holding Corp (NASDAQ:TNXP) which lost 54.47% to settle at 0.19 and Viracta Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VIRX) which was down 48.65% to 0.08 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1907 to 892 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2346 fell and 983 advanced, while 111 ended unchanged.
Shares in International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) rose to all time highs; up 1.97% or 5.03 to 260.73. Shares in Cyngn Inc (NASDAQ:CYN) fell to all time lows; losing 56.70% or 0.15 to 0.12. Shares in Viracta Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VIRX) fell to all time lows; losing 48.65% or 0.07 to 0.08.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 13.33% to 18.62.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.69% or 19.69 to $2,854.69 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.34% or 0.25 to hit $72.78 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.16% or 0.12 to trade at $75.79 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.49% to 1.03, while USD/JPY fell 0.21% to 154.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 108.62.
