Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp, Transport and Communication sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.03%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were SoftBank Group Corp. (TYO:9984), which rose 5.96% or 1,085.00 points to trade at 19,285.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Japan Steel Works Ltd (TYO:5631) added 3.44% or 303.00 points to end at 9,115.00 and Sharp Corp (TYO:6753) was up 3.38% or 26.00 points to 795.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Trend Micro Inc. (TYO:4704), which fell 8.92% or 702.00 points to trade at 7,167.00 at the close. Bridgestone Corp. (TYO:5108) declined 4.68% or 344.00 points to end at 7,000.00 and GS Yuasa Corp. (TYO:6674) was down 4.56% or 182.00 points to 3,806.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2510 to 1053 and 269 ended unchanged.
Shares in Trend Micro Inc. (TYO:4704) fell to 52-week lows; down 8.92% or 702.00 to 7,167.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.52% to 28.12.
Crude oil for January delivery was down 0.12% or 0.07 to $59.60 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $63.25 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.30% or 12.55 to trade at $4,255.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.30% to 154.64, while EUR/JPY fell 0.17% to 180.30.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 98.88.
