Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Consumer Goods and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.45%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.35%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.14%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 2.21% or 2.33 points to trade at 107.63 at the close. Meanwhile, Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 2.17% or 4.38 points to end at 206.27 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) was up 1.73% or 3.16 points to 185.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG), which fell 3.55% or 5.09 points to trade at 138.36 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) declined 3.52% or 2.32 points to end at 63.54 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) was down 2.63% or 8.66 points to 321.23.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Paramount Skydance Corp (NASDAQ:PSKY) which rose 9.02% to 14.57, Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which was up 4.41% to settle at 27.23 and Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which gained 4.09% to close at 246.92.
The worst performers were Air Products and Chemicals Inc (NYSE:APD) which was down 9.45% to 236.05 in late trade, Dollar General Corporation (NYSE:DG) which lost 6.12% to settle at 124.27 and Incyte Corporation (NASDAQ:INCY) which was down 5.68% to 96.70 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Top Wealth Group Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:TWG) which rose 271.16% to 22.01, Orangekloud Technology Inc (NASDAQ:ORKT) which was up 150.54% to settle at 2.33 and Wave Life Sciences Ltd (NASDAQ:WVE) which gained 147.26% to close at 18.52.
The worst performers were SMX Security Matters Ord Shs Class A (NASDAQ:SMX) which was down 59.09% to 135.82 in late trade, Meihua International Medical Technologies Co Ltd (NASDAQ:MHUA) which lost 45.72% to settle at 7.61 and GRI Bio Inc (NASDAQ:GRI) which was down 34.47% to 1.35 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1837 to 908 and 93 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1748 fell and 1625 advanced, while 173 ended unchanged.
Shares in Air Products and Chemicals Inc (NYSE:APD) fell to 52-week lows; losing 9.45% or 24.64 to 236.05. Shares in Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 4.41% or 1.15 to 27.23. Shares in Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.55% or 5.09 to 138.36. Shares in Meihua International Medical Technologies Co Ltd (NASDAQ:MHUA) fell to 3-years lows; down 45.72% or 6.41 to 7.61. Shares in Wave Life Sciences Ltd (NASDAQ:WVE) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 147.26% or 11.03 to 18.52.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 8.11% to 16.66.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.54% or 22.90 to $4,220.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.06% or 1.24 to hit $58.84 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.99% or 1.27 to trade at $62.48 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 1.16, while USD/JPY rose 0.38% to 155.94.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 99.07.
