Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Utilities and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.65%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.59%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.44%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 3.62% or 7.73 points to trade at 221.26 at the close. Meanwhile, Travelers Companies (NYSE:TRV) added 1.29% or 3.54 points to end at 277.76 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was up 1.24% or 0.96 points to 78.56 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which fell 0.93% or 0.63 points to trade at 67.22 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) declined 0.58% or 1.49 points to end at 255.39 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) was down 0.47% or 0.31 points to 65.67.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Electronic Arts Inc (NASDAQ:EA) which rose 14.87% to 193.35, PACCAR Inc (NASDAQ:PCAR) which was up 5.20% to settle at 100.54 and CDW Corp (NASDAQ:CDW) which gained 4.71% to close at 164.37.
The worst performers were Costco Wholesale Corp (NASDAQ:COST) which was down 2.90% to 915.95 in late trade, Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) which lost 2.70% to settle at 283.46 and eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY) which was down 2.12% to 91.14 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Applied Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:APLT) which rose 119.56% to 1.23, Medirom Healthcare Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:MRM) which was up 102.76% to settle at 2.94 and bioAffinity Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:BIAF) which gained 54.84% to close at 5.28.
The worst performers were Smart Digital Group Ltd (NASDAQ:SDM) which was down 86.41% to 1.85 in late trade, Pop Culture Group Co Ltd (NASDAQ:CPOP) which lost 55.13% to settle at 0.92 and Zhengye Biotechnology Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:ZYBT) which was down 38.67% to 1.84 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1897 to 853 and 77 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2010 rose and 1311 declined, while 169 ended unchanged.
Shares in Electronic Arts Inc (NASDAQ:EA) rose to all time highs; rising 14.87% or 25.03 to 193.35. Shares in Smart Digital Group Ltd (NASDAQ:SDM) fell to all time lows; down 86.41% or 11.76 to 1.85. Shares in Zhengye Biotechnology Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:ZYBT) fell to all time lows; falling 38.67% or 1.16 to 1.84.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 8.66% to 15.29.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.62% or 23.30 to $3,794.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.54% or 0.35 to hit $65.33 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.52% or 0.36 to trade at $69.78 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.33% to 1.17, while USD/JPY fell 0.21% to 149.53.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 97.83.
