Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals & Mining, Resources and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.04%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were DroneShield Ltd (ASX:DRO), which rose 21.89% or 1.02 points to trade at 5.68 at the close. Meanwhile, Westgold Resources Ltd (ASX:WGX) added 10.49% or 0.47 points to end at 4.95 and Austal Ltd (ASX:ASB) was up 6.33% or 0.49 points to 8.23 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Liontown Resources Ltd (ASX:LTR), which fell 10.15% or 0.10 points to trade at 0.88 at the close. Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX:PLS) declined 6.35% or 0.16 points to end at 2.36 and Block Inc (ASX:XYZ) was down 5.42% or 6.25 points to 108.99.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 579 to 553 and 404 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.35% to 10.64.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.43% or 16.62 to $3,889.82 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.32% or 0.20 to hit $62.57 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.33% or 0.22 to trade at $66.25 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 0.66, while AUD/JPY fell 0.51% to 97.34.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 97.29.
