Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Clean Technology, IT and REITs sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.05% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY), which rose 2.93% or 3.88 points to trade at 136.09 at the close. Meanwhile, MDA Ltd (TSX:MDA) added 2.63% or 0.62 points to end at 24.18 and Superior Plus Corp (TSX:SPB) was up 2.08% or 0.15 points to 7.36 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Allied Properties REIT (TSX:AP_u), which fell 2.56% or 0.34 points to trade at 12.92 at the close. Toromont Industries Ltd . (TSX:TIH) declined 1.46% or 2.44 points to end at 164.55 and ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS) was down 1.25% or 0.45 points to 35.51.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 512 to 314 and 88 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.05% to 13.94.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.30% or 12.70 to $4,189.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.77% or 0.45 to hit $59.10 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.61% or 0.38 to trade at $62.92 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 0.71, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.09% to 0.61.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 99.52.
