Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Utilities, Industrials and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.60%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.26%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.25%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which rose 4.63% or 43.19 points to trade at 975.86 at the close. Meanwhile, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) added 2.18% or 4.00 points to end at 187.14 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 2.11% or 5.13 points to 247.74 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM), which fell 3.55% or 10.97 points to trade at 298.06 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) declined 2.52% or 6.04 points to end at 233.53 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was down 1.49% or 0.98 points to 64.59.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were KLA Corporation (NASDAQ:KLAC) which rose 7.70% to 1,544.96, Vistra Energy Corp (NYSE:VST) which was up 6.63% to settle at 180.18 and BlackRock Inc (NYSE:BLK) which gained 5.93% to close at 1,156.65.
The worst performers were Devon Energy Corporation (NYSE:DVN) which was down 4.22% to 36.32 in late trade, Boston Scientific Corp (NYSE:BSX) which lost 3.99% to settle at 90.00 and Charter Communications Inc (NASDAQ:CHTR) which was down 3.83% to 194.60 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Springview Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:SPHL) which rose 649.57% to 17.39, Callan JMB Inc (NASDAQ:CJMB) which was up 273.56% to settle at 4.18 and Moolec Science SA (NASDAQ:MLEC) which gained 118.13% to close at 7.70.
The worst performers were TryHard Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:THH) which was down 76.16% to 7.63 in late trade, Bit Origin Ltd (NASDAQ:BTOG) which lost 41.24% to settle at 0.12 and MetaVia Inc (NASDAQ:MTVA) which was down 39.23% to 3.30 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1745 to 991 and 89 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1861 rose and 1522 declined, while 171 ended unchanged.
Shares in KLA Corporation (NASDAQ:KLAC) rose to all time highs; rising 7.70% or 110.46 to 1,544.96. Shares in Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) rose to all time highs; rising 4.63% or 43.19 to 975.86. Shares in Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 2.11% or 5.13 to 247.74. Shares in Bit Origin Ltd (NASDAQ:BTOG) fell to all time lows; down 41.24% or 0.08 to 0.12. Shares in MetaVia Inc (NASDAQ:MTVA) fell to all time lows; down 39.23% or 2.13 to 3.30.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.49% to 15.83.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.36% or 16.66 to $4,619.04 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 4.39% or 2.72 to hit $59.30 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 4.09% or 2.72 to trade at $63.80 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 1.16, while USD/JPY rose 0.15% to 158.63.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 99.18.
