Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Materials and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.53%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aecon Group Inc . (TSX:ARE), which rose 4.93% or 1.40 points to trade at 29.82 at the close. Meanwhile, G Mining Ventures Corp (TSX:GMIN) added 3.27% or 1.06 points to end at 33.48 and ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS) was up 2.98% or 1.09 points to 37.71 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Orla Mining Ltd (TSX:OLA), which fell 11.08% or 2.13 points to trade at 17.10 at the close. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) declined 6.88% or 0.71 points to end at 9.61 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) was down 6.00% or 0.83 points to 13.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 500 to 426 and 76 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.73% to 11.77.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.41% or 17.25 to $4,225.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.85% or 0.51 to hit $60.18 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.87% or 0.55 to trade at $63.81 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.93% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR rose 0.94% to 0.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 98.96.
