Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and Consumer Staples sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.15% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG), which rose 9.73% or 2.33 points to trade at 26.28 at the close. Meanwhile, G Mining Ventures Corp (TSX:GMIN) added 5.47% or 2.24 points to end at 43.17 and Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX:SVM) was up 5.21% or 0.82 points to 16.56 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bitfarms Ltd (TSX:BITF), which fell 5.58% or 0.23 points to trade at 3.89 at the close. Open Text Corp (TSX:OTEX) declined 4.05% or 1.70 points to end at 40.32 and goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY) was down 3.92% or 5.26 points to 129.03.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 487 to 460 and 96 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 16.21% to 15.13 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.77% or 81.30 to $4,676.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.15% or 0.09 to hit $59.43 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $64.16 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.31% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.08% to 0.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 98.85.
