Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology, Basic Materials and Consumer Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 7.87%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 9.51%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 12.16%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), which rose 18.59% or 17.90 points to trade at 114.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 15.34% or 21.39 points to end at 160.78 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 15.33% or 26.43 points to 198.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), which rose 0.65% or 0.97 points to trade at 150.97 at the close. McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) added 1.36% or 4.08 points to end at 303.91 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) was up 1.71% or 0.72 points to 42.89.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Microchip Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MCHP) which rose 26.94% to 44.86, United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:UAL) which was up 26.14% to settle at 70.83 and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which gained 23.82% to close at 96.84.
The worst performers were Dollar General Corporation (NYSE:DG) which was down 1.92% to 86.02 in late trade, MarketAxess Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MKTX) which lost 1.49% to settle at 203.20 and American Water Works (NYSE:AWK) which was down 1.34% to 138.98 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Venus Concept Inc (NASDAQ:VERO) which rose 210.07% to 8.93, BeLive Holdings (NASDAQ:BLIV) which was up 105.13% to settle at 6.40 and Antelope Enterprise Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:AEHL) which gained 104.13% to close at 4.45.
The worst performers were Femto Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:FMTO) which was down 98.09% to 0.05 in late trade, WW International Inc (NASDAQ:WW) which lost 62.21% to settle at 0.18 and Vincerx Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:VINC) which was down 49.24% to 0.28 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2659 to 183 and 23 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2885 rose and 463 declined, while 82 ended unchanged.
Shares in Femto Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:FMTO) fell to all time lows; down 98.09% or 2.76 to 0.05. Shares in BeLive Holdings (NASDAQ:BLIV) rose to all time highs; gaining 105.13% or 3.28 to 6.40. Shares in WW International Inc (NASDAQ:WW) fell to all time lows; falling 62.21% or 0.29 to 0.18. Shares in Vincerx Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:VINC) fell to all time lows; falling 49.24% or 0.27 to 0.28.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 35.75% to 33.62.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 3.87% or 115.69 to $3,105.89 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 5.14% or 3.06 to hit $62.64 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 4.58% or 2.88 to trade at $65.70 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 1.07% to 147.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 102.72.
