Google to Pay $135 Million to Settle Lawsuit Over Handling of Cellular Data

          Alphabet-C
          -0.04%

Google will pay $135 million to settle a lawsuit that alleged the Alphabet unit programmed its Android operating system to illegally collect consumers' cellular data.

Under the proposed settlement, which was filed in federal court on Tuesday, class members will receive monetary payments taken from the settlement fund. Google would also be required to change its Google Play terms of service and the setup screens for new Android mobile devices in order to disclose its data practices and get users' consent to use their data.

Google said the case misrepresents industry practices.

"We are pleased to resolve this case, which mischaracterized standard industry practices that keep Android safe," said Jose Castaneda, a spokesperson for Google.

Castaneda said the company is providing additional disclosures to give people more information about how its services work. The updates would provide more clarity about Google Play services and how it uses cellular networks, and don't significantly change how Android works or operates, Castaneda said.

The preliminary settlement requires a judge's approval.

Investing.com -- Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) stock is climbing ahead of its earnings report on Wednesday as several major Wall Street research firms maintain positive ratings despite worries about increased spending on artificial intelligence technology.

Four prominent Wall Street firms have reaffirmed bullish stances on Meta with price targets between $800 and $870. Wolfe Research kept its Outperform rating with an $800 target, forecasting 21% year-over-year revenue growth in 2026, exceeding the Street’s 18.5% estimate. The firm also expects higher capital expenditures of $118 billion compared to consensus estimates of around $110 billion.

Bernstein maintained its Outperform rating with an $870 target, emphasizing Meta’s strong product deployment capabilities while recognizing investor concerns about increased AI investment. The firm pointed out that Meta AI already has over 1 billion monthly users even with "average" models, suggesting substantial growth potential with improved AI technology.

Bank of America Securities continued its Buy rating with an $810 price target. The firm expects fourth-quarter revenue of $59.2 billion and earnings per share of $8.27, both above consensus estimates. Their research suggests potential upside driven by healthy macroeconomic conditions, usage growth, and AI-enhanced ad targeting.

Raymond James reaffirmed its Strong Buy rating with an $800 target, projecting 20% and 19% top-line growth in 2026 and 2027, respectively, compared to Street estimates of 18% and 16%. The firm described Meta as an "AI Tweener" that could see its narrative change rapidly with breakthroughs in its Llama model or increased AI monetization, though near-term concerns persist about higher expenses and capital expenditures.

Investing.com -- Odysight.ai Inc. (NASDAQ:ODYS) stock rose 6.9% Wednesday after the AI-based monitoring solutions provider announced it received two pilot orders from a major defense customer for monitoring applications on aerial platforms.

The first order involves integrating and evaluating a computer-vision-based monitoring system on an operational combat helicopter, while the second focuses on monitoring a critical component within an airborne weapons system.

"These pilot orders from this Major Defense Customer represent an important step in the evaluation and validation of our monitoring solutions within complex aeronautical environments," said Yehu Ofer, Chief Executive Officer of Odysight.ai.

The company indicated that successful pilot programs could lead to broader operational deployment. The first order includes integration design, installation surveys, supply of integration kits, system installation, testing, and flight trials. The second order encompasses an initial laboratory demonstration, a functional separation test, and data collection to evaluate predictive maintenance capabilities.

Odysight.ai develops AI-based monitoring and Predictive Maintenance solutions, and the company believes these orders reflect growing interest in advanced monitoring systems within defense and aeronautics sectors as part of a shift toward data-driven maintenance approaches.
