Data Interpretation: The University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index is an assessment of consumers' perceptions of their personal finances and the state of the nation's economy published monthly by the University of Michigan.
Researchers at the University of Michigan used raw survey data from 500 to 600 adults to calculate seasonally adjusted indices of consumer confidence, current financial conditions and purchases, and expectations, which include expected financial and economic conditions in one year and five years.
