WTI Eyes Further Gains as Middle East Risk Premium Builds

          Warren Takunda

          Traders' Opinions

          Summary:

WTI holds near $84.30 as tensions around Hormuz and the Red Sea keep supply risks elevated. With no diplomatic breakthrough in sight, the near-term bias remains tilted higher.

The US-Iran standoff over the Strait of Hormuz remains the main driver. President Donald Trump has claimed that Washington has control of the strategic waterway and reiterated his push to reopen shipping, while Tehran maintains that Hormuz remains under Iranian control and insists its conditions must be met before normal traffic resumes.
Uncertainty has made crude highly sensitive to geopolitical headlines. Rabobank notes that Brent has swung between roughly $72 and $102 since late June as markets react to changing expectations of escalation or a possible diplomatic breakthrough.
Risks are also spreading to the Bab al-Mandeb and Red Sea, where Houthi attacks continue to threaten shipping. This adds another layer of concern around global energy flows and keeps the geopolitical premium embedded in oil prices.
For now, I see the consolidation near $84 as a pause within the broader advance rather than an immediate reversal signal. Without meaningful progress toward restoring normal shipping through key Middle Eastern waterways, corrective pullbacks are likely to continue attracting buyers.

Technical AnalysisWTI Eyes Further Gains as Middle East Risk Premium Builds_1

WTI is pressing against a major resistance zone around $83.00–$84.30, with the 4-hour chart showing an increasingly constructive setup. More importantly, the broader price structure has developed into a clear inverse head-and-shoulders formation, strengthening the argument that the recovery from the August lows could have considerably further to run.
The pattern is well defined, with the left shoulder forming around the late-July lows, the head established near $73.00–$74.00, and the right shoulder developing around $79.00–$80.00. Price has subsequently returned to the neckline around $83.00–$84.00, putting buyers in position to confirm the reversal.
A sustained 4-hour break above $84.30–$85.00 would provide stronger confirmation of the pattern and could trigger an acceleration toward $88.00, followed by the previous swing-high region around $91.50–$92.00.
Beyond there, the measured move from the inverse head-and-shoulders points toward approximately $93.00–$94.00, which aligns almost perfectly with the major resistance zone highlighted at the top of the chart. That confluence makes the area my broader bullish objective.
A temporary pullback from current resistance would not invalidate the setup. In fact, a retest of $82.50–$83.00 followed by renewed buying would strengthen the breakout case. The bullish structure would become more questionable if WTI slips decisively back below $80.00.
Overall, I favour bullish continuation following confirmation above the neckline. The inverse head-and-shoulders, recovery through successive higher lows and repeated pressure against $84 resistance suggest the market is preparing for a larger move toward the $90s.
          TRADE RECOMMENDATION
          BUY WTI
          ENTRY PRICE: 83.50
          STOP LOSS: 78.00
          TAKE PROFIT: 93.00
