Will XAU/USD Break Below $4,000 After the Failed Recovery?

          Gerik

          Commodity

          Summary:

On 6 November 2026, gold is struggling to maintain its recovery as stronger-than-expected US employment figures reinforce demand for the US dollar. After reaching an intraday high above $4,100, XAU/USD experienced renewed selling pressure, retreating towards $4,047....

          Market Overview

The latest decline in gold is primarily driven by a meaningful shift in US monetary policy expectations. October Nonfarm Payrolls increased by 165,000, significantly exceeding the consensus forecast of 65,000. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate declined from 4.2% to 4.1%, while average hourly earnings increased by 0.4% month-on-month. These figures suggest that the US labour market remains more resilient than previously anticipated, reducing the urgency for the Federal Reserve to ease monetary policy.
The immediate market reaction has been relatively straightforward. The US dollar strengthened approximately 0.7%, reaching its highest level since 29 October, while gold declined approximately 1% towards $4,047.10. More importantly, traders increased the probability of a December Federal Reserve rate hike to approximately 74.8%, compared with 72.8% before the employment report. This repricing creates an unfavourable environment for gold because higher interest-rate expectations increase the opportunity cost of holding a non-yielding asset.
However, the broader picture is more complicated. Gold remains approximately 4.5% higher for the week despite Friday's decline, indicating that underlying buying interest has not completely disappeared. The recent rally from approximately $3,870 towards $4,147 demonstrates that substantial demand remains present at lower prices. Consequently, the current SELL opportunity should be viewed as a short-term bearish continuation setup rather than confirmation of a prolonged collapse.

          Market Sentiment

Investor sentiment has shifted towards caution following the US employment report. The latest decline reflects more than ordinary profit-taking: stronger employment figures have encouraged investors to reconsider expectations of monetary easing, supporting the dollar and increasing pressure on precious metals.
An important observation is the contrast between gold's weekly performance and its latest intraday behaviour. Despite maintaining substantial weekly gains, gold failed to sustain its recovery above $4,100. This suggests that buyers who accumulated positions during the earlier recovery may be taking profits as monetary-policy expectations become less favourable.
Nevertheless, the market is approaching an important demand area. Gold's retreat towards $4,030–$4,050 could attract bargain hunters, particularly because the recent recovery demonstrated significant buying interest. If sellers cannot establish acceptance below this region, short covering could generate another upward movement towards $4,080–$4,100.
The most important distinction is therefore whether $4,050 becomes a rejection zone or a temporary consolidation area. For the SELL position, a failed retest accompanied by weakening buying momentum would provide stronger evidence that bearish pressure remains dominant.

          Technical Analysis

Will XAU/USD Break Below $4,000 After the Failed Recovery?_1
Gold's immediate structure has deteriorated after breaking below the previous consolidation region around $4,056–$4,069. The FX Desk identifies $4,029–$4,035 as the next important hourly support zone, while $4,056–$4,069 represents immediate resistance. Additional daily reference levels place support around $4,003 and $3,971.
Bollinger Bands (20,0,2): The recent decline indicates expanding bearish volatility. For the proposed SELL, the preferred confirmation is a rebound towards the middle band followed by rejection. Continued trading beneath the middle band would indicate that sellers retain control. However, if price reaches the lower band around $4,030 without further selling momentum, a temporary rebound becomes increasingly possible.
Ichimoku Kinko Hyo (9,26,52): A bearish Tenkan-sen/Kijun-sen crossover would strengthen the short-term downside outlook. Ideally, price should remain beneath the Kumo cloud, with the Kijun-sen acting as dynamic resistance during any recovery towards $4,050. A sustained move above the cloud would weaken the bearish continuation scenario.
Stochastic (5,3,3): The preferred signal is a bearish crossover from the overbought region above 80 following a corrective rebound. This would indicate that buyers are losing momentum and sellers are regaining control. Given the sharp preceding decline, an oversold reading alone should not trigger an immediate short position.
Overall, the technical outlook favours selling rallies while gold remains below $4,069. A confirmed breakdown beneath $4,029 could expose $4,003, followed by $3,971. Conversely, sustained M15 trading above $4,069 would weaken the immediate bearish thesis. The $4,050 entry is therefore best treated as a conditional pullback entry, not a recommendation to chase an already declining market.

          Trade Recommendation
