During the Asian session on Thursday, the Japanese Yen (JPY) slightly declines against the US dollar, maintaining proximity to a multi-decade low observed last week. At the conclusion of the March meeting, the Bank of Japan conveyed a cautious stance, refraining from providing explicit guidance on future policy actions or the pace of normalization. This dovish tone, combined with an optimistic atmosphere in equity markets, weakens the appeal of the safe-haven JPY, prompting some buying interest in the USD/JPY pair around the 151.55 region.
Concerns persist among investors regarding potential intervention by Japanese authorities to prevent excessive depreciation of the domestic currency. This cautious sentiment may deter aggressive bearish positions on the JPY and restrict further appreciation of the USD/JPY pair. Investors are also inclined to await additional signals regarding the Federal Reserve's rate adjustment trajectory before determining short-term strategies. Consequently, attention is directed towards the upcoming release of the US Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) report on Friday, as it could provide crucial insights influencing market movements.
Japanese government officials persist in their verbal interventions aimed at safeguarding the domestic currency, a move that is perceived to offer modest backing to the Japanese Yen, although prospects for significant upside appear restricted. Tatsuo Yamasaki, former Vice Finance Minister for International Affairs in Japan, asserted earlier this week that the nation stands prepared to intervene in the currency market if the JPY experiences a decline beyond its existing boundaries.
Technical Analysis
USD/JPY has been consolidating near the key psychological level of 152.000. Previously, USD/JPY has been rejected by this strong resistance as well and currently the price is not moving too much from the current zone. A divergence has formed at such an important strong resistance level which gives me the confidence to take the short position
Besides that, USD/JPY has tons of Fair Value Gaps on the lower side which increases the probability that price could come down and fill the imbalances.
