Hormuz Agreement Hopes Emerge, Bulls Continue to Build Momentum Amid Consolidation

          Eva Chen
          Summary:

Hopes for a temporary agreement on the Strait of Hormuz are improving, easing geopolitical tensions and reducing expectations of further Federal Reserve tightening. As a result, gold remains resilient within a consolidation phase while building momentum for a potential directional breakout.

          Fundamentals

Spot gold traded within a narrow range during Wednesday's Asian session as optimism grew over a temporary agreement on the Strait of Hormuz. The prospect of restoring stability to the critical shipping route has eased concerns over energy supply disruptions and reduced fears of another surge in inflation, thereby lowering the likelihood of additional Federal Reserve rate hikes.
Qatar said it had drafted a proposal aimed at restoring normal commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, both U.S. and Iranian officials indicated that negotiations to reopen the world's most important energy transit corridor had made encouraging progress.
Supported by optimism surrounding the potential agreement, international crude oil prices declined for a third consecutive session. As energy prices eased, market expectations for the Fed's policy path also shifted. Markets are now fully pricing in only one additional rate hike this year, compared with nearly two hikes being priced just a week ago. A less aggressive tightening outlook is generally supportive of non-yielding assets such as gold.
Gold essentially serves as a barometer of global liquidity conditions. Whenever markets perceive signs of tighter liquidity—whether driven by structural macroeconomic factors or unexpected geopolitical developments—gold is often among the first assets to react. Conversely, when tightening expectations fade, gold tends to be one of the earliest beneficiaries.
In addition, the relationship between gold and crude oil remains intact. Oil prices have a significant influence on global inflation expectations and indirectly affect gold by shaping market pricing for future Federal Reserve policy. If tensions in the Middle East continue to ease and a clearer roadmap toward de-escalation emerges, concerns over a more hawkish Fed are likely to diminish further, providing additional support for higher gold prices.
Hormuz Agreement Hopes Emerge, Bulls Continue to Build Momentum Amid Consolidation_1

          Technical Analysis

During Wednesday's European session, gold successfully broke out of its previous symmetrical triangle consolidation pattern and reclaimed the $4,150 level, significantly easing the earlier bearish pressure. Although strong resistance remains overhead, the metal's renewed approach toward the previous swing high at $4,166 suggests that a medium-term bottom is gradually being established and that market structure is shifting in favor of the bulls.
Momentum indicators on the four-hour chart reinforce this constructive outlook. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) has climbed toward 60, indicating strengthening bullish momentum, while the MACD remains above the zero line and continues to display a bullish crossover, suggesting that the short-term uptrend remains intact.
From a technical perspective, the next major upside target for bulls is $4,203. A decisive break above this level could trigger a sizeable short-term pullback as traders lock in profits. However, as long as the broader bullish structure remains intact, any correction is expected to present another buying opportunity. Therefore, the preferred strategy remains buying on dips.
