Fundamentals
Given the hawkish tone of the Fed's speech last week, people will focus on the U.S. January CPI inflation report on Tuesday. The gold market is worried that a bigger surprise upside could lead the market to raise the probability of additional rate hikes to around 75%, which means a higher dollar and gold shorts ready to display their strength.
Traders will consider the stronger US CPI data as a part of the trend, which could have a more pronounced impact on market sentiment at the end of the year. Indeed, this week's U.S. inflation data could swing like a wrecking ball, with investors becoming more aligned on the outlook for inflation in recent months.
Moreover, inflation and all economic inputs will be priced in as key information on how the Fed to "go higher for longer" as the market turn its attention to longer cycle risks.
But what's interesting is that last week, the US S&P 500 index was driven more by micro factors than macro factors of the yield curve inversion.
Technical Analysis
U.S. 10-year Treasury yields rise after market valuations on CPI heat up and confidence that the Fed will push rates higher.
From technical analysis, the price also broke through the previous resistance area of 3.645% and even the 0.618 Fibonacci area. The potential area would be the Fibonacci zone 0.786 corresponding to the price area of 3.781%.
The DXY pullback during the European session, and the price is on a downward to 103.1388. The market expects that DXY to rise strongly before the Fed's "hawkishness" and tomorrow's CPI will be a big explosion in the market.
XAUUSD is rebounding. However, the gold will not gain sharply, and it can be seen as an opportunity to sell.
From technical analysis, the price has moved horizontally and back to 1853 from the previous 1863 area. Now, the direction of gold will depend entirely on tomorrow's US CPI data.
