USDA Corn Projections Underscore Need for E15 Fuel, Says RFA — Market Talk

The surprise outlook for larger U.S. corn yields, leading to production crossing the threshold of 17 billion bushels for the first time, has optimism about U.S. export market prospects darkening. But one solution may be to increase consumption of corn domestically, including via ethanol, says the Renewable Fuel Association in a note following the WASDE's release. The RFA's comments again highlight the industry's desire to see E15, or motor fuel blended with 15% ethanol, the new standard at gas pumps nationwide. "The fastest and easiest way to shore up the growing supply-demand imbalance in the corn market is to permanently remove the summertime barrier on E15 sales and eliminate obsolete fuel retail infrastructure rules," says RFA head Geoff Cooper.
