Inspections of U.S. soybean shipments surged from the prior week, according to the latest weekly report from the Department of Agriculture.
In its latest Grain Export Inspections report, the USDA said that soybean export inspections for the week ended Jan. 8 totaled 1.53 million metric tons. That's up from 984,116 tons reported last week. It is also more than reported by the USDA at this time last year.
Corn and wheat inspections for the week also rose from the prior week, with corn inspections reported at 1.49 million tons and soybeans at 317,465 tons. Both of these totals are also up from this time last year.
Shipments to China were the key source of support for U.S. soybean inspections. For the week, inspections to China totaled 901,118 tons. Mexico was the top destination for U.S. corn, and the Philippines was the leading destination for wheat.
CBOT grain futures are higher ahead of Monday's WASDE report, which will be published at noon eastern time. Most-active corn futures are up 0.5%, soybeans rises 0.7%, and wheat climbs 1.9%.
