When you buy USD/CAD, you're buying US dollars and selling Canadian dollars. You're hoping the USD strengthens against CAD, so you can sell those dollars for more loonies later 😊. Example: You buy 1 lot (100,000 units) of USD/CAD at 1.3900. If it rises to 1.4000, you sell, getting more CAD. Profit = (1.4000 - 1.3900) x 100,000 = 1,000 CAD. Selling is the opposite – you're selling USD and buying CAD, hoping the USD weakens. Make sense? Want an example with numbers or how leverage plays in?
