The Japanese yen has shown resilience in the face of economic headwinds, climbing despite a disappointing GDP report released on Thursday. As of the North American session, USD/JPY is trading at 150.12, marking a 0.31% decline. Despite a significant dip of 0.70% earlier in the day, the pair has managed to recover a substantial portion of its losses.

Japan Tips into a Technical Recession

Japan's fourth-quarter GDP figures fell short of expectations, contracting by 0.1% quarter-on-quarter, missing market estimates which had predicted a 0.3% growth. This decline follows a revised 0.8% drop in the previous quarter. On an annualized basis, Japan's GDP fell by 0.4%, extending the 3.3% decline seen in the third quarter.
