CMC Markets has appointed Nicos Demetriades as Executive Director of its Cyprus operations, bringing in a seasoned brokerage executive as the company looks to strengthen its presence in the European market.
Demetriades joins from IG Group, where he spent more than five years and most recently served as Head of Brightpool, IG's Cyprus-based market-making operation. He was responsible for overseeing the business until its closure in 2024 as part of IG's broader restructuring efforts. Prior to IG, he held senior finance and risk management roles at Purple Trading and Spot Capital Markets, and began his career in financial services auditing at Ernst & Young Cyprus.
Based in Cyprus, Demetriades is expected to play a key role in expanding CMC Markets' local operations and supporting the broker's broader European growth strategy. While CMC Markets does not currently hold a Cyprus license, its German-regulated entity enables the group to provide services across the European Union under BaFin regulation.
His appointment also fuels speculation that CMC Markets may further build out its Cyprus presence, leveraging the island's deep pool of FX and CFD industry talent. Demetriades' extensive experience in brokerage operations, risk management, and regulatory environments is expected to support the firm's ongoing expansion and strategic development across Europe.
