The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) has issued a public warning about a wave of phishing calls using a spoofed FINMA switchboard number. The fraudulent calls, which display the official number 031 327 91 00, falsely claim to originate from FINMA employees.
The regulator stated that, as a rule, it does not contact private individuals by phone or email. These spoofing attempts, where scammers manipulate the information transmitted to the caller ID display to mask their identity, are designed to mislead recipients into believing they are speaking with legitimate officials.
FINMA urges the public to exercise caution and avoid responding to such calls. Recipients of calls should refrain from sharing personal information and are advised to verify the caller’s identity independently. Suspicious activity can be reported directly to FINMA via questions@finma.ch, with details of the call.
In a related advisory issued in June, FINMA highlighted increasing phishing emails impersonating its employees—some fraudulently claiming to represent members of the Board of Directors or Executive Board.
