Freetrade has appointed Jenny Zhao as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a leadership transition following the broker’s acquisition by IG Group last year.
Zhao will replace co-founder Viktor Nebehaj, who announced earlier this year that he would step down from the CEO role. Her appointment remains subject to regulatory approval.
She joins Freetrade from UK-based tech company Farewill, where she held several senior leadership positions including Chief Commercial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Managing Director of Legal Services. Prior to that, Zhao spent nearly five years at energy company Bulb, leading growth and international expansion initiatives across markets including France, Spain, and the United States.
Earlier in her career, Zhao worked at media agency Manning Gottlieb OMD, managing campaigns for major consumer and technology brands.
Founded in 2016, Freetrade was among the first UK platforms to popularize commission-free stock trading. The company currently manages more than £4 billion in client assets and was acquired by IG Group in a £160 million deal aimed at strengthening IG’s position in the UK retail investment market.
Commenting on the appointment, Zhao said she was joining the company at “an exciting stage of growth,” with a focus on making investing more accessible to a broader range of users.
