EquiloomPRO Uses Deepfake Videos Featuring Korean President Lee for Fake Endorsement

Oct 15, 2025 BrokersView

Korean Police have launched a preliminary investigation into a deepfake scam that falsely features President Lee Jae Myung endorsing an AI-based investment platform.

The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency’s cyber investigation unit confirmed Tuesday it is probing EquiloomPRO, a fraudulent website posing as an AI-driven investment service. The site circulated AI-generated videos and fake news clips on social media, claiming users could earn stable monthly returns.

One video features a Korean news anchor introducing EquiloomPRO as a government-certified investment vehicle, followed by a fabricated segment of President Lee calling it “a life-changing opportunity” and suggesting that investing 300,000 won ($210) monthly could yield up to 30 million won.

Investigators noted the president’s speech appeared awkward and unnaturally pronounced, which are signs of AI-generated footage by a non-Korean speaker.

The fake interview claims any Korean national aged 18 or older can invest, directing users to submit personal details and deposit a minimum of 350,000 won. Police confirmed two clips linked to the scam but declined further disclosure of details.

Due to limited details, the exact website remains unverified. We only found a platform using the same name that promotes so-called financial freedom without requiring trading experience, a hallmark of investment scams. No active promotional clips were found online, suggesting possible removal.

Deepfake scams are surging across the investment landscape. Recent cases include AI-generated videos misusing the likeness of Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal and Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to promote fraudulent schemes.

The American Bankers Association (ABA) Foundation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have released public awareness materials warning of deepfake investment fraud.
