On Tuesday, Saskatchewan authorities issued a warning about investment scams misusing the image of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, reminding investors never to make investment decisions based solely on endorsements from public figures.
It was reported that fake news about online investment platforms appeared on social media, with a photo of the Canadian Prime Minister inserted into the content, claiming that he endorsed two trading platforms called “InvestCanada” and “BigProfitPulse”.
However, Canadian authorities said in a statement that scammers often mimic the legitimate media by creating fake news and then using “a notable figure endorsement” to get people to invest.
The trading platform InvestCanada claims to offer residents access to global financial markets, while BigProfitPulse offers opportunities to trade different financial instruments such as forex, stocks, and cryptocurrencies. However, neither trading platform is registered with the province's financial regulator, the Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan (FCAA)
In addition, InvestCanada's website (investgov.ca) is not accessible now.
