Kenyan detectives have arrested a suspect over alleged forex and crypto investment fraud involving KSh4.95 million, Kenyans.co.ke reported on October 28, citing the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The report said a complainant transferred the money in several transactions between April 30 and July 2, 2025, after allegedly being promised it would be invested in forex and cryptocurrency trading.
Metro News identified the suspect as Harrison Njeru Muthika and said detectives from the Nairobi Regional Headquarters made the arrest.
According to the reports, investigators submitted the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for review, after which a court issued an arrest warrant.
Muthika was being held pending arraignment at the Milimani Law Courts. The anticipated charges included cheating, operating an unapproved collective investment scheme, fraudulently inducing trading in securities and offences involving proceeds of crime, Metro News reported.
The allegations have not been established by a court.
Kenyans.co.ke reported that the DCI’s October 27 statement urged the public to verify investment providers before committing funds and approach promises of lucrative returns with caution.
