On July 11, 2025, Italy’s financial watchdog, the Companies and Exchange Commission (CONSOB), ordered the blackout of seven websites illegally offering crypto-related services to Italians without regulatory approval.

These websites have duplicated interfaces and identical content despite operating under separate domain names.

This latest crackdown brings the total number of blacked-out websites to 1,376 since CONSOB was granted authority in July 2019 to block access to fraudulent online financial intermediaries.

CONSOB reiterated the importance of investor due diligence. It advised traders to verify if financial service providers are properly authorized and confirm the existence of an approved prospectus for investment offerings.

The regulator also unveiled a new educational video in June, aiming to help savers spot and avoid Ponzi schemes.
