Consob Blocks Seven Unauthorised Investment Websites

20 hours ago BrokersView

Italy’s financial regulator, the Commissione Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa (Consob), has ordered the blocking of seven websites for unlawfully offering investment services and activities related to financial instruments without authorization.

The action forms part of Consob’s ongoing crackdown on financial fraud and unauthorized investment platforms targeting retail investors. Since receiving website-blocking powers in July 2019, Consob has ordered the blocking of 1,736 websites, including 204 linked to crypto-asset activities.

The regulator also warned investors about increasingly sophisticated online scams, including cloned websites, fake celebrity endorsements, fraudulent emails, and AI-generated content such as synthetic images, videos, and voices used to promote fraudulent investment schemes.

Consob reminded investors to verify that an investment provider is properly authorized before depositing funds and to check whether any required prospectus or white paper has been published. Italian internet service providers are in the process of blocking access to the websites, although implementation may take several days.
