CFI Financial Group Appoints Francois du Plessis as CEO of South Africa

CFI Financial Group has appointed Francois du Plessis as Chief Executive Officer for South Africa, strengthening its local leadership team as the global online trading provider continues expanding its presence in the African market.

Du Plessis will lead CFI’s South African operations, bringing experience across online trading, market analysis, business development, and financial services. His background in the regional brokerage industry is expected to support CFI’s growth strategy and strengthen its engagement with traders and partners in South Africa.

Before joining CFI, du Plessis worked at ATFX Africa as a Market Analyst. During his time with the company, he was also registered as a CAT I and CAT II FAIS representative under South Africa’s financial services framework, gaining experience within the country’s regulated trading environment.

Earlier in his career, he spent several years at HFM, initially working as a Market Analyst before becoming Country Head for South Africa. In that role, he gained experience in regional business development and brokerage operations.

Du Plessis has also worked with CAEP Group, a South African firm involved in regulatory hosting, licensing, and compliance services, further expanding his knowledge of financial services infrastructure.

As CEO of CFI South Africa, du Plessis will oversee the company’s local strategy and operational development. He succeeds Zihaad Israfil, who previously led CFI’s South African business following the launch of its local operations.

CFI entered the South African market after receiving authorization from the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) in 2024 and later established its local presence. The company continues to expand its international footprint across multiple markets.

The appointment comes as competition among brokers in South Africa continues to increase, with firms investing in local leadership, regulatory capabilities, and regional market expertise. Du Plessis’ combination of brokerage experience, market knowledge, and industry visibility is expected to support CFI’s efforts to strengthen its position in the country.

With Francois du Plessis taking the CEO role, CFI Financial Group adds another experienced regional executive to its leadership team as it continues developing its African growth strategy.
