Bangladesh’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two individuals accused of running an online investment scam that relied on a cloned website impersonating a foreign company based in the Netherlands.
The suspects, identified as Touhid Bhuiyan (21) from Narsingdi and Hridoy Hasan (21) from Jamalpur, were detained during coordinated raids in the Station Road area under Jamalpur Sadar Police Station, according to CID officials.
Fake Platform, Real Losses
Investigators said the group copied the name and design of a legitimate overseas company to create a convincing fake investment platform. Victims were contacted directly and introduced to the website by individuals posing as company representatives.
Using promises of fast and high returns, the suspects persuaded targets to transfer large sums of money. CID confirmed that at least one victim invested approximately Tk 25 lakh before discovering the scheme was fraudulent.
A criminal case was filed with Paltan Police Station on November 1 under multiple sections of the Penal Code related to cheating, criminal breach of trust, and conspiracy.
Telegram Networks and Account Abuse
During the investigation, CID’s Dhaka Metro East Division found that Hridoy Hasan had allegedly been running similar schemes for an extended period, mainly through Telegram groups while impersonating foreign investment firms.
Digital forensic analysis revealed that he controlled around 30 bank accounts registered under different names. Authorities also discovered multiple Binance accounts opened using third-party identities, all linked to his personal crypto wallets.
In addition, investigators found 15 QR codes stored on his phone, allowing access to numerous Telegram accounts used to communicate with victims and manage fraudulent operations.

Fraud networks increasingly exploit cloned websites, fake identities, and third-party accounts to move funds quickly and evade detection. Investors should remain alert to platforms claiming foreign backing, unusually high returns, or requiring transfers through multiple bank or crypto accounts.
