Targeting Singaporean! Fraudulent Investment Platform 'Immediate Era' Lures Victims with Malicious Ads

Recently, Singapore has seen another investment scam impersonating Singaporean political figures.

Scammers reportedly lure victims to the fraudulent investment platform Immediate Era using Google Ads, fake news websites, and deepfake videos, falsely claiming ties to Singaporean officials.

According to a recent report by cybersecurity firm Group-IB, these malicious activities are exclusively targeted at users with Singaporean IP addresses, specifically preying on local residents. After clicking the ads, victims were redirected through a series of intermediary websites before landing on a forex investment platform registered in Mauritius.

The cybersecurity firm identified 119 malicious websites mimicking mainstream news outlets. One fake CNA site used deepfake videos claiming Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong endorsed an investment project named “Immediate Era.” Another fabricated Yahoo News article falsely stated Singapore’s Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs, K. Shanmugam, also endorsed the programme.

Investigators also uncovered 28 associated advertising accounts, mostly registered in Bulgaria, Romania, Latvia, Argentina, and Kazakhstan.

Group-IB estimated that approximately 3,808 Singapore residents clicked on these malicious ads last month, with 685 individuals redirected to fraudulent websites.
