PayPal and Venmo Experience Widespread Outages for Several Hours — Brokers Deposits and Withdrawals May Be Affected

Oct 17, 2025 BrokersView

On the evening of October 16 (Singapore time), global mobile payment giants PayPal and its subsidiary Venmo experienced large-scale service disruptions, leaving users in multiple regions unable to complete payments or transfers for several hours. The incident may have impacted the deposit and withdrawal processes of some trading platforms.

Global Outage: Tens of Thousands Affected

According to international media reports, the outage began around 11 p.m. Singapore time on October 16, with users gradually reporting an inability to log in, transfer funds, or complete transactions.

The two services began to return to normal around 3 a.m. on October 17.

For most users, the disruption lasted from about one to several hours. Some continued to experience login errors or slow performance even after partial restoration.
By around 3 a.m. on the 17th, the number of complaints had dropped sharply, and both PayPal and Venmo support accounts confirmed that many users had regained access.

In total, tens of thousands of outage reports were logged globally, affecting users across North America, Europe, and Asia.

Official Response: “Brief Service Interruption”

A PayPal spokesperson later issued a statement, saying:

“PayPal and Venmo services experienced a brief interruption, but the issue has now been resolved.”

No technical details were disclosed, and the company described the incident simply as a “short service disruption.”

About PayPal and Venmo

Venmo, a mobile payment and social transfer app, was acquired by PayPal in 2013.

Today, Venmo enjoys massive popularity among younger U.S. users, while PayPal remains one of the world’s largest third-party payment platforms, widely used for cross-border transactions, forex deposits, and e-commerce payments.

Although both services are now back online, industry insiders noted that the outage may have delayed deposits and withdrawals for forex, crypto, and financial trading platforms.

So far, there have been no reports of lost user funds, and the root cause of the outage has not yet been disclosed.
