HKMA Issues Scam Alert on Fraudulent Website Impersonating Standard Chartered

Jul 02, 2025 BrokersView

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a public alert concerning fraudulent websites, phishing emails, and fake internet banking login screens falsely associated with Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited.

The HKMA has placed the latest identified fraudulent website on its Consumer Alert List

In its notice, the HKMA reminded the public that legitimate banks do not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to login pages or to perform financial transactions. Furthermore, financial institutions will never request sensitive personal information such as login credentials or one-time passwords via phone, email, or SMS.

Individuals who may have disclosed personal information or completed transactions in connection with the scams are urged to contact their banks immediately and report the incident to the police.

This warning marks the latest in a series of alerts issued by the HKMA in response to such fraudulent activities. The HKMA has previously issued multiple alerts regarding fraudulent websites and phishing messages that mimic several major banks.
