The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has announced that Christopher David Nairn has been permanently banned from the financial services and credit industry from May 22, 2024, after it was revealed that Nairn misappropriated more than 650,000 customer funds by forging customer signatures and falsifying documents.
ASIC found that he lacked the honesty, integrity, professionalism and trustworthiness expected of a person involved in the industry.
Nairn was a director of Equus Private Wealth Pty Ltd and an authorized representative under the Australian Financial Services Licence of Capstone Financial Planning Pty Ltd. He was also a credit representative for Capstone between 2011 and 2014, a company that is currently compensating affected consumers.
When the ASIC’s ban against Nairn came into effect, he was not allowed to provide any financial services or hold a position related to the finance and credit industry. At the same time, he is not permitted to control entities that provide financial services or individuals who carry out credit activities.
