Jul 28, 2025 BrokersView

When choosing a forex broker, spreads play a crucial role in trading costs. Tight spreads can significantly impact profitability, especially for high-frequency and scalping traders. In this June 2024 analysis, we compare the average and worst spreads of major brokers across EUR/USD, GBP/USD, and XAU/USD (Gold) to help traders make informed decisions.

1. AUS Global

EURUSD Spread: 1.7 pips
GBPUSD Spread: 7 pips
XAUUSD Spread: 6.9 pips

AUS Global delivers a solid and competitive spread, particularly on the EURUSD pair, with a 1.7 pip average. The 6.9 pips spread on XAUUSD is also quite favorable for gold traders. AUS Global is ideal for traders who prioritize a balanced trading environment and moderate spreads.

2. Decode Global

EURUSD Spread: 11 pips
GBPUSD Spread: 12.7 pips
XAUUSD Spread: 15.4 pips

3. IC Markets

EURUSD Spread: 0.8 pips
GBPUSD Spread: 2.4 pips
XAUUSD Spread: 8.5 pips

IC Markets stands out as the top broker in terms of competitive spreads, particularly on the EURUSD pair with an average spread of just 0.8 pips. Known for its low cost of trading, IC Markets is a popular choice among traders looking for tight spreads and fast execution, especially for scalping and day trading strategies. This broker also offers a solid spread on XAUUSD, making it suitable for gold traders as well.

EUR/USD Average Spreads

  • IC Markets takes the lead with the lowest average spread of 0.8 pips for EUR/USD, making it an excellent choice for traders seeking tight spreads.

  • AUS Global offers a 1.7 pips spread, which is also competitive and appealing for those focusing on EUR/USD.

  • Decode Global stands at 11 pips, which is significantly higher, indicating that it may not be the most cost-effective option for EUR/USD traders.

However, worst spreads for EUR/USD show significant variation, especially for IC Markets, where the worst spread can reach 250 pips, a considerable jump from its average spread. On the other hand, AUS Global has a more manageable worst spread of 150 pips.

GBP/USD Average Spreads

  • IC Markets again offers the tightest average spread of 2.4 pips for GBP/USD, maintaining its competitive edge across the board.

  • AUS Global comes in at 7 pips, which is decent but still a bit wider than IC Markets.

  • Decode Global and EightCap have much larger spreads, around 12-14 pips, which may impact traders looking to minimize their costs.

The worst spreads also show a significant range, with Windsor Brokers presenting the widest worst spread of 638 pips, while EBC Financial Group fares better at 52 pips. These variations could be concerning for traders needing stability.

XAU/USD Average Spreads

  • AUS Global leads in the gold (XAU/USD) category with a 6.9 pips average spread, which is ideal for gold traders looking for tight spreads.

  • IC Markets follows with 8.5 pips, slightly higher but still competitive for gold traders.

  • EC Markets has the highest spread of 27.4 pips, making it less favorable for traders focusing on gold.

For worst spreads, ACY Securities presents a significant 600 pips worst spread for XAU/USD, which is a major red flag for traders. Doo Prime has a much more competitive worst spread at 28 pips, making it a better choice for those trading gold.

Conclusion

In this comparison, IC Markets stands out with the lowest average spreads across the board, especially for EUR/USD and GBP/USD. AUS Global offers competitive spreads, particularly for EUR/USD and XAU/USD. By considering both average and worst spreads, traders can make a more informed decision when choosing the right broker for their trading strategies.
